Importance of a Well Fitting Face Mask – Part 2

To follow on from the previous post, it’s probably worth adding two more cases for comparison. These are – no mask, and a mask that doesn’t filter. In the case of no mask, the results show that the breath goes a long way.

Exhalation, no mask

With a mask, but no filtration, even though particles aren’t captured, the forward spread is much smaller.

Exhalation with a mask, but no filtering ability.

In this case, the particle load is much higher than a 100% effective filter, but the mask directs a lot of it backward. For protecting others, this is likely still better than nothing.
